About
A Sacred Vow

As a child we all encounter the phrase "I promise"

Not long after hearing it we learn what a promise truly means. Most often, it's in that moment when a promise is broken.

Perhaps that's why we say promises are meant to be broken, just as secrets are meant to be told.

It's not until the rare moment when a secret is truly kept, or a promise remains honored, that we encounter the underlying weight of such a statement.

Moreover, we learn about who the person is who's making that promise, or sharing that secret.

A promise, to many, is sacred. While to others it's an everyday occurrence and a means to propel themselves forward selfishly.

So, I ask you dear reader, to what ends of the earth would you go to honor a promise?

Are you the type to make them regularly and forget the moment after making one?

Or do you hold a promise close to your heart, keeping it inside and only let out for the most necessary moments?

Many of the promises I've made in my life have been to those closest to me.

To those asking something special, something more of myself.

To both parties that promise is a means to growth, to bettering ourselves and to challenging our everyday actions.

None of us are perfect. I doubt any of you haven't broken many promises throughout your lives.

I made a promise.

The soul who received that promise is no longer with us.

So, what do you deem the sanctity of that promise now? Null and void?

If you made a promise to someone close, and they left this earth.

Would you watch it drift away in the breeze with time?

Or would you be even more stern in your determination to fulfill?
